Reactec’s continuously variable Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper offers significant benefits over conventional variable dampers. Unlike hydraulic actuators there are no electromechanical valves or small moving parts, resulting in virtually silent operation and enhanced durability and reliability within high operating tolerances. The semi-active nature of the technology eliminates the problems of instability that can occur with fully active systems.

Our revolutionary design results in a uniquely small size that allows the damper to be easily integrated into existing designs with a minimum of impact. The damper design is fully scalable, with variations currently in development for applications ranging from hand-held power tools to suspended flooring for ships. Reactec’s MR damper has been designed to offer the best performance available in such a small damper. The key performance areas are:

• Response time of under 15ms
• Smooth operation

When incorporated into a spring-damper system, and with suitable electronic control, it can significantly reduce both resonance and forced frequencies, eliminating the trade-off present in other systems.
