HAVmeter® survives coldest winter since 1914!

As construction of the M74 Completion is now well underway and the snow is finally melting, an unexpected item has emerged from the depths of an excavation. After enduring over two months of complete submersion in 2ft of frozen mud and icy water, a lone HAVmeter® has been rescued.

Davie Teasdale – Site Foreman at Interlink M74 Project – says he simply recharged the meter on the Basestation and found that despite being completely submerged for months, it was still fully functioning.

“I couldn’t believe the HAVmeter® could survive those conditions. When we saw it slip into a flooded cavity, we thought we’d never see it again. Then when we found it two months later, we took it out, wiped it down, and carried on using it!”

As one of the largest and most significant construction projects in Scotland, the extension will provide important travel connections whilst generating considerable revenue in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow.

“We at the M74 Interlink JV are committed to the safety, health and welfare of our workforce now and into the future. We have made a major investment in the HAVmeter® kit and are now seeing the benefits of upfront information on exposure to the workforce.” – Harry Gardner, Interlink M74.

This project is part of a massive infrastructure investment in Scotland’s transport network which includes a new rail link between Airdrie in the West and Bathgate in the East and further improvements to the central Scotland motorway network where the HAVmeter® is also being used to monitor and manage hand-arm vibration.
