Robust defence against litigation

HSE compliance offers limited defence due to the lack of conclusive exposure records. Following a claim a claimants working history is reviewed to assess under whose employment they were most exposed to vibration and to request the highest payment from that employer. All other employers are targeted to make payments.

Being HSE compliant does not mean you have individual exposure records and becomes “your word against there's” with little proof that the employer kept the claimant below thresholds. The Reactec Analytics Platform provides more conclusive and auditable records to provide a more robust defence.

An employer and their insurance company will rightly be concerned about liability should a worker develop ill-health. A company can prove a reduced risk with evidence of minimising risks and preventing ill-health by means of risk assessment and practical actionsto reduce exposure.

Also the costs of collating the exposure paperwork takes time and can incur a large cost as part of the process.

The Reactec Analytics Platform addresses these issues by providing a more robust defense by providing trigger accurate tool usage and exposure levels for all tool operator activity. As an auditable, tamper proof and accurate system all historical exposure data can be viewed and downloaded at the click of a button.

“Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome is not just a problem for people using industrial power tools in the construction or manufacturing sectors – it can affect anyone who regularly uses other vibrating equipment including mowers and strimmers. We have dozens of lawnmowers that are in daily use at Goodison Park and our training complex at Finch Farm, so we have to have a monitoring system that is simple and effective. “In the past we relied on timesheets and individual record-keeping to monitor vibration exposure, but the HAVmeter system is a far superior method of doing this. All of the information is collated by the devices and provides us with a comprehensive overview of how much exposure each member of staff is subjected to. If they reach the safe limit stipulated by the HSE, then they are alerted to the danger at once – meaning there is no chance of over-exposure. “However, it is not just a good tool for preventing injuries. The system allows us to generate reports about the vibration levels of our equipment, so we can identify which machines need to be replaced or upgraded. It’s a very versatile piece of kit that will continue to be hugely beneficial to our groundskeeping operations in the future.”
