Electronics hardware engineer

Location: Edinburgh

Job purpose

To provide electrical and electronic engineering expertise to the development of Reactec’s products and their application in the field.


Main duties & responsibilities

  • Electrical engineering design of Reactec products
  • Schematic design of electronic circuits required for Reactec’s product range involving measurement sensors, microcontrollers, displays, RFID, Bluetooth, power / battery management, and mobile communications
  • Recommend components / technologies and processes for design and manufacturing
  • Produce PCB layouts
  • Technically liaise with contract manufacturers of Reactec products
  • Technically liaise with any external expert parties for product design support or and certification / qualification

Product design release

  • Participate in stage gate design reviews
  • Maintain comprehensive detailed design records exceeding the requirements of ISO9001
  • Provide product design release information under strict release and change control for contract manufacturers which is comprehensive in clear and easy to understand detail

Product qualification

  • Take responsibility for defining manufacturing acceptance, product qualification and certification test requirements to address the products application. This includes EMC, Radio and Safety certification
  • Support product performance validation and debug with firmware and test engineers

Essential knowledge, skills & experience

  • Electrical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree
  • Strong electronics schematic design skills
  • Good PCB layout CAD skills
  • Knowledge of PCBA fabrication process
  • Microprocessor integration and circuit design
  • Power management circuit design
  • Basic RFID circuit design
  • Experience of fast prototyping techniques for PCBA’s
  • ISO9001

Desirable knowledge, skills & experience

  • Orcad Capture and Orcad PCB Editor
  • RF design experience for small device antenna optimisation
  • Experience in BlueTooth LE and or UWB
  • Cellular comms experience
