Meet the Reactec Team: James Bovey, Business Development Manager

Our team is our greatest asset.

At Reactec, we invest in people at all stages of their career journey. Through on-the-job training, employee shadowing activities, customer site visits, and more, we’re constantly striving to build an informed, engaged workforce that’s passionate about risk prevention, and committed to innovation.

For our latest “Meet the Team” conversation, we sat down with James Bovey. James recently joined the team as a Business Development Manager. During our conversation, we asked James to share his experience as an applicant and new starter at Reactec.

First, we spoke to James about his role, responsibilities, and what he looks for in a workplace.

1 - What is your role and what are your primary responsibilities?

My role is Business Development Manager and my primary responsibilities are creating new business for Reactec through various channels, managing current accounts, and ensuring the needs of our customers are met to the highest standards.

2 - What’s most important to you in a working environment and what attracted you to this role?

The most important thing to me in a working environment is the ethos and the mission of the company. Second to this, for me it’s very important to be seen as a person, and not a number, which was one of the things I found most attractive about Reactec. Specifically, I was impressed with the amount of time and effort they put into supporting and growing team members.

Next, we talked with James about his experience with the recruitment and onboarding processes at Reactec.

Our training specialist, Mike Welby, took James through Reactec’s technology offering, including R-Link’s multi-function risk management capability.

3 - How did you find the recruitment process?

The recruitment process was excellent, and mine was made up of three interviews: The first was with Sam, Sales Director, followed by an interview with Jacqui, our CEO, and then a final face-to-face interview with Sam and Khushboo, who’s our Product Manager. It was great to be able to express myself to various key stakeholders in the business. I also enjoyed the tasks that I was asked to complete throughout the recruitment process: I completed a sales pitch which wasn’t something I’d done before in a professional setting and I found it really exciting.

4 - How have you found the induction process so far?

The induction process has been second to none. I have been incredibly well-looked after right from the get-go. My first week was spend in the office in Edinburgh, a place I’d never been before, and it was fantastic. All travel was arranged by Reactec, and it was completely seamless from leaving my house in the morning to arriving in Edinburgh in the afternoon. During the week, I had a number of induction meetings with various people from all different types of roles in the business, from technical support, to HR, to sales, to logistics . . . all bases were covered and every single person I spoke with was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and keen to offer any support or help I needed. Upon returning from Edinburgh at the end of the week, I had a great feeling that Reactec is where I want to spend a large amount of time in my career, and that’s testament to those who inducted me into the business.

Next, we dug into James’ role a bit more, and asked him what he’s most excited about with regard to his position.

5 - What’s something you’re excited to get involved with in your new role?

I’m excited to have the opportunity to grow the business, get Reactec into more workplaces, and to continue Reactec’s mission of nurturing current customers and giving them the best experience that we can offer. I’m really looking forward to having my own group of clients who I'm responsible for and who I can help throughout their journey of ensuring their working environment is safe today and for years to come.

Finally, we chatted with James about his impressions of the R-Link watch, and asked for his thoughts on the future of occupational health and safety.

6 - What are your first impressions of the R-Link watch?

When I first saw the watch I was interested because I really like my gadgets (particularly things that serve a purpose and work as they should!) When I got the chance to try out the functions for myself for the first time I was seriously impressed at how easy it was to use, especially given the amount of quality data that it generates in such a simple interface. Then of course, I was shown Reactec Analytics and I was blown away by the level and the detail of the data that such a small, comfortable watch can provide. Prior to any interviews or meetings with Reactec, I was already passionate about the R-Link watch and was, and I’m even more impressed now by what it can do.

7 - What are your thoughts about prevention engineering and the future of occupational health and safety?

Prevention Engineering for me is absolutely crucial moving forwards. The importance of being proactive in an approach to worker safety and not reactive can, and does, save and improve lives. I think the future of occupational health and safety is in very safe hands, and those are the hands of Reactec’s technology and team. Effective, comfortable, and life-saving would be my three words to describe what we do.
