Reduce tool and maintenance costs

Reactec’s HAVmeter solution provides a number of powerful management and cost saving services. The automated reports help you improve tool utilisation, stock levels, training, theft and maintenance programs. The reports are built from data on tool utilisation, redundant tools, when tools were used, what tools were used, for how long, exact trigger time and even by which operators.

Reduce Tool Maintenance Cost

It’s common to have a reactive tool servicing program that recalls all tools for servicing even if they have been unused. The HAVmeter solution monitors tool trigger usage to provide reports on tools usage and also unused tools. This reduces the number of tools recalled to be serviced and taken out of service. The HAVmeter solution can reduce servicing and transportation costs whilst reducing the number of tools taken out of service for no reason. In effect, enabling preventative or predictive maintenance. Through tool tracking clients have reported tools stored nearest the entrance of a tool depot or storage area are more often used due to operators picking up tools nearest the door whilst tools furthest from an entrance remain unused.

The HAVmeter solution also reports on tools that are showing unusual vibration trends and can indicate a tool is requiring repair or early maintenance. This again is a potential cost saving feature by simply highlighting inefficient tools and savings made on repairs due to early intervention. An interesting factor of erratic tool usage reporting is it can also indicate poor operator tool use requiring additional tool training. Erratic tool reporting can also explain other detrimental work practises for example an operator had been found to have consistently used the wrong fuel for a tool.

Richard Cairns, Health & Safety Manager of Everton Football Club has been using the HAVmeter for over 18 months and said “The system allows us to generate reports about the vibration levels of our equipment, so we can identify which machines need to be replaced or upgraded. It’s a very versatile piece of kit that will continue to be hugely beneficial to our grounds keeping operations in the future.”

Reduce redundant tool purchase or hire

The HAVmeter collects information on exactly how long each tool has been running/in-use so you have a clear view of utilisation rates and if equipment is on hire unnecessarily. Without this detail of reporting it is logical to expect companies to have surplus plant as back up but with the HAVmeter’s highly accuarate overview of tool usage, Asset Managers can confidently and precisely reduce plant and related cost by refining the plant required in real terms. Clients have found that accurate reporting of tools utilisation can lead to a substantial reduction in plant cost.

Effective tool allocation

Knowing which tools have been used and for how long during a project or within a site helps Asset Managers refine plant requirements over time for certain projects more precisely. Creating efficiency in plant allocation can dramatically reduce unnecessary tool, servicing and transportation costs. This has proven very useful especially for oil and gas companies who have high transportation costs moving plant to and from oil platforms and remote locations.

Improving tool usage and care

It has been proven that tools remain in better condition and are handled more considerately when operators know they are being tracked for tool use.

Support theft control and lost plant

The HAVmeter reports can support tracking down missing tools by indicating the last operator who used a tool that cannot be located. This helps to understand the last place and time the tool may have been used or stored. The knowledge that tool usage is being tracked may also deter theft or vandalism. With an overview of tool location usage, this can also help identify poor security across depots and sites.

As stated above the HAVmeter reporting solution can benefit a company through significant cost savings as well as better understanding of how plant is used. It also proves the flexibility of the reporting solution and how it can support companies who have unique requirements and infrastructure.
