The R-Link Driver Watch - Reactec is excited to announce the release of an expanded feature set for the proximity warning application of R-Link.
These enhancements - which are delivered through a remote upgrade - allow for the R-Link watch to be configured for specific roles such as drivers, machine operators, or banks men. Readily support the agile nature of on-the-job work, while enabling more effective controls and communication.

One challenge with proximity warning systems is making sure that your solution is perfectly balanced: ideally, it must be robust enough to mitigate your workers’ risk from proximity to dangerous vehicles and areas, but also flexible enough to support how your teams actually work. For drivers/machine operators on job sites, this means changing your proximity warning parameters quickly and effectively to reflect real-world working situations.
Historically, one challenge with proximity detection technology has been ensuring that workers who must work in close proximity to moving vehicles and equipment - like drivers - can actually get near such hazards without interference from their technology. For example, a forklift driver might be operating a vehicle one moment, and stacking shelves the next: this type of work requires a flexible proximity warning system that won’t get in the way or slow anyone down.

With R-Link, individual workers are given different credentials, which allows them to get closer to specific areas and/or hazards. For drivers, the system is set up so that no alerts are triggered when they’re operating their vehicle or equipment. Importantly, the system also enables the driver to allow others to get close to such hazards, on a case-by-case basis. This is key functionality because it means that workers who need to be close to hazards in order to do their work aren’t being distracted by alerts that don’t actually apply to them.
And while these permissions can be set in advance, R-Link also empowers drivers/machine operators to allow access in real-time: Drivers can give pedestrians a Digital Thumbs-Up to allow access to vehicles and equipment. At the press of a button, the pedestrian’s watch reconfigures instantly, allowing them to get close to the hazard without issue. And the Driver can also control whether they’re alerted when someone gets too close to their vehicle. This particular notification can be switched On or Off, to allow the driver even more control and flexibility during specific tasks or times. Moreover, these permissions can be updated at any time: It’s easy to control or update who has access to which areas or equipment on a day-to-day basis.
And while your teams are working more safely and efficiently, Reactec’s powerful Analytics are still collecting data on any ‘permitted working’ as it’s happening, to ensure that hotspots, bottlenecks, and patterns of behaviour are noted for the future.
